VectorLinux 5.8 live CD GOLD final and SOHO-5.8 live alpha1
The VectorLinux team is proud to announce the release of VectorLinux 5.8 GOLD LIVE CD and the first SOHO-5.8 alpha live CD and DVD. This is the final release for 5.8 standard GOLD live. The hard drive installer that has been problematic is fixed and should work well. The SOHO 5.8 alpha live comes in either CD or DVD versions. The DVD version includes all that is in the SOHO-5.8 install release plus 62 additional language packs for KDE. The CD version has lost some funtionality due to size constraints. The development tool chain and OpenOffice (replaced by Koffice) were removed. However, for demo purposes the CD live version of SOHO-5.8 should work well.
These live CD's demo all that is making the 5.8 Vector release famous like browser plugins, seamonkey firefox and opera, the newest xfce4 desktop, The Gimp and Xara LX, Abiword and Gnumeric, vasm and vl-hot, wireless drivers and configuration tools, support for read and write to ntfs via fuse and ntfs-3g, and lots of fun and games.
VectorLinux-5.8 SOHO FINAL RELEASED!!!
It's here, and finally it's Final! The long awaited VL-SOHO 5.8 IS ready for the taking. Bugs have been squashed, new features implemented such as revised binary NVIDIA and ATI drivers installation. They are compiled for the individual hardware on the spot to insure optimum performance. We felt it was time to give our users the best out of the box experience, and in today's world video performance is a must. Firefox and OpenOffice are updated to their latest versions. Also, some serious updates to Vasm reflect new configuration programs Several wifi drivers were updated, including ndiswrapper and madwifi. There are some eye candy updates as well as some tweaks to the installation process.
The latest SOHO includes a custom 2.6.20.3 SMP Kernel, compiled
with bootsplash, squashfs, lzma, and realtime patches. It supports
reading and writing to NTFS-formatted media via fuse and ntfs-3g. The
desktop environment is KDE version 3.5.6 with Kmyfirewall, Amarok
1.4.5, and OpenOffice version 2.2. Multimedia applications such as VLC
0.8.6a, Mplayer 1.0RC1, K3B-1.0.1 and graphics editors such as The Gimp
version 2.2.14 and Xara Xtreme version 0.7 are also included. Printing
is supported by cups with hpijs drivers for HP printers, and gutenprint
drivers for many other popular printers. There is a whole new look and
feel, from the boot menu to the desktop. We call it beautiful. We know

This is the fruit that has resulted from several months of coding, debugging and testing by the core developement team and the Vector community. This release follows our legendary tradition of stability (inherited from Slackware11.0), blazing speed on even modest hardware. and simplicity of design and function. The release features fully working browser plugins including Flash 9, java, mp3, real media, Windows media and DVD playback (including encrypted movies).
Additional features include: Linux kernel 2.6.18.5, fully customized Xfce 4.3.99.2, SeaMonkey Internet
Suite 1.0.6, Firefox 2.0 and Opera 9.10 (so you'll be sure to have your favourite browser!). The Gimp and Xara LX for your graphic needs, Abiword and Gnumeric for your office

The DELUXE version of our latest release, SOHO version 5.1.2 is now available from the CDSTORE. Lots of goodies are included in this special two CD set. The goodies include KDE-3.5, FreeRock Gnome, E17 (a cvs special), custom NVIDIA drivers and more. These are all packed into the second CD with easy install scripts and or README documentation. If thats not enough then how about the full KERNEL SOURCE (for those wanting to build their own drivers), REALPLAYER, ACROBAT READER and OPERA. We have also applied all the bug fixes and patches found since the public release of our base download version (hence version 5.1.2). This release is one of our best. We are excited about SOHO 5.1.2 we hope you enjoy it!

SOHO final 5.1.1 release
We have released version 5.1.1 of our SOHO product. This is a bug fix for the previous release that fixes some lilo configuration issues and a broken wireless package used during installation. We also tweaked our iso creation tool which should address the problem some people were having burning the iso image. If you have already installed the 5.1 final release and have no problems in any of these areas of installation please disregard this notice.

Vector Linux 5.1 standard edition is out !!!
The developers of Vector Linux are proud to announce that the lastest version, 5.1 Standard Edition, is available from our ftp site and the various mirrors. We have tested this release long and hard under the guise of 5.0 with two beta's and two release candidates. We think you will find this a fast, easy to install and very robust operating system that can be used on older hardware and new as well.
