In my many hours of playing Minecraft, one of my favorite things to do is gather resources and create all sorts of unique and useful items. One item that I recently discovered and became very interested in is the sponge. Sponges are incredibly handy for removing water from an area, and they have a cool aesthetic that adds a nice touch to any build. In this article, I will guide you through the process of making a sponge in Minecraft and share some personal tips and insights along the way.
Gathering the Necessary Materials
Before we can start crafting our sponge, we need to gather a few key materials. Here’s a list of what you’ll need:
- 3 Wet Sponges
- 1 Nether Star
Now, you might be wondering, how do we get these materials? Well, let me break it down for you.
To obtain wet sponges, you’ll need to venture into an ocean monument. These structures can be found in the deep ocean and are usually guarded by guardians and elder guardians. Equip yourself with some strong armor, a good weapon, and a few buckets for water breathing potions. Once you’ve located an ocean monument, explore it and defeat the guardians and elder guardians to obtain wet sponges. Make sure to bring plenty of blocks to build bridges and create cover from the guardians’ attacks.
As for the Nether Star, you’ll have to face one of the toughest bosses in the game – the Wither. To summon the Wither, you’ll need 4 soul sand blocks and 3 Wither Skeleton skulls. Soul sand can be obtained in the Nether, and Wither Skeleton skulls are dropped by Wither Skeletons that spawn in Nether Fortresses. Once you have all the necessary materials, construct the Wither in a safe area and gear up for a challenging battle. Defeat the Wither to obtain the coveted Nether Star.
Crafting the Sponge
Now that we have all the required materials, it’s time to craft our sponge. Head over to your crafting table and follow these steps:
- Place the three wet sponges in the bottom row of the crafting table.
- Put the Nether Star in the center slot of the middle row.
- Take the crafted sponge from the output slot.
It’s as simple as that! Now you have your very own sponge ready to use.
Using the Sponge
Once you have your sponge, it’s time to put it to good use. Sponges can absorb water in a radius of 5 blocks, making them perfect for draining water from flooded areas. Additionally, sponges will also absorb lava if placed near it, so they can be useful for removing unwanted lava pools as well.
To use the sponge, simply right-click on it while holding it in your hand. The sponge will absorb the water or lava in its vicinity, leaving the area dry. Keep in mind that each sponge can only absorb a limited amount of fluid before it becomes a wet sponge again. To dry out a wet sponge, simply place it in a furnace or near a heat source.
Conclusion
Making a sponge in Minecraft might seem like a complicated process at first, but with the right materials and a little perseverance, you’ll soon be able to create this handy item. Whether you’re building an underwater base or just want to remove pesky water or lava, sponges are a must-have tool in your Minecraft adventures. So go ahead, gather the materials, craft your sponge, and start exploring the vast possibilities that await you!
